Gas Leak Detection Jewells

Gas leak detection in Jewells finds where the gas is escaping, shuts off the faulty length and repairs it, then pressure tests the line before your appliances are lit again. Licensed gas fitters do the whole job and the price is fixed before work starts. If you can smell gas right now, get outside first and then ring (02) 4063 3469.

Where this sits in our work. The gas fitting hub lists every gas job, and the plumber in Jewells page covers the plumbing side.

What Are the Signs of a Leak?

The smell is the loudest warning, but there are others worth knowing:

  • The added rotten-egg odour, strongest near the fault
  • Flames that burn floppy and yellow instead of crisp blue
  • A whistle or hiss from the regulator or an outdoor pipe
  • Plants dying off above a buried gas line
  • Headaches or dizziness that clear once you are outdoors

Any one of these is reason enough for a check. Waiting for the smell to get worse only makes the job more urgent.

What Should You Do First?

Getting the safety steps right costs nothing. In order:

  1. 1

    Get everyone out

People first, pets with them if they come easily.

  2. 2

    Leave switches alone

No lights, no appliances, nothing electrical.

  3. 3

Air the place on the way

Doors and windows open if it is quick to do.

  4. 4

    Ring from outside

    Call (02) 4063 3469 from the footpath or a neighbour's place.

For a strong smell, or if anyone feels unwell, the gas network's emergency number comes before anything else. We take over the repair once the immediate danger is controlled.

How Does a Leak Get Repaired?

Trace

The detector is worked along the regulator, each pipe length and every joint in turn until it picks up the escape. Pipe buried under paving or inside a wall is narrowed down first, so only a small section gets opened.

Isolate

The leaking length is valved off so gas still reaches the appliances that are safe while the repair goes ahead.

Repair

The damaged pipe or fitting is replaced, not taped. Corroded fittings and tired flexible connectors come out and sound materials go in.

Prove it

The line is pressure tested after the repair, and each appliance on it is checked and relit before we leave.

What Shapes the Quote?

With a leak, the biggest variable is how hard the faulty joint is to get at:

  • A fitting at the regulator takes less work than pipe buried under a path
  • How much pipe has to be replaced once the section is exposed
  • Whether an appliance connection needs redoing as well
  • A night or weekend visit, which carries its own rate named when you ring

Coast Air and Old Gas Points

Salt works on outdoor fittings

With the swamp on one side and the surf on the other, the onshore wind here carries salt onto copper, brass and bayonet points year after year. Saltwater corrosion on an outdoor joint shows as a green or white crust.

One building wave, one age of pipework

The brick-veneer homes here went up through the 1970s and the decades after, so their outdoor gas points and appliance connections have spent the same years in that air. A crusted union or a weeping isolation valve is what a detector check tends to turn up.

New connections get sealed against that air as standard, which the gas appliance installation page explains.

What Customers Say

When We're Not the Right Call

Gas escaping at the meter itself or in the street supply is the network operator's to fix, so a strong smell there goes to their emergency number first. A burner fault inside a heater or oven can belong to the maker's service agent once we have proved the supply to it is sound.

Gas Leak Questions From Jewells Homes

What should I do if I can smell gas at home?

Get everyone outside and leave every switch alone on the way. From the footpath, ring (02) 4063 3469 and a licensed gas fitter is booked in. We are Available 24/7, nights and weekends included.

Do you check the gas in the over-50s villas?

Yes. The detector sweep, isolation, repair and pressure test run the same way in a brick villa as in a detached house. The only difference is who gets the paperwork, which can go to the village as well as the resident.

Is the salt air hard on gas pipework in Jewells?

It is. The coastal breeze leaves salt on exposed copper and brass, and fittings fitted with the 1970s and 80s homes have had decades of it. Anything with green or white crust on it is worth a detector check.

Is a gas leak repair covered by your warranty?

Yes. Every job carries our 365-day warranty on all work. Ring the same number if a repair needs another look and we will be back to it.
