What Does the Jetter Actually Do?

The jetter feeds a reinforced hose into the pipe through an opening, and its nozzle sprays forward to cut the choke and backward to pull itself along, scrubbing the bore as it travels.

  • Fine sand packed into joints and flat sections
  • Grease and sludge coating kitchen and sewer runs
  • Soft root growth that has crept in at a joint
  • Loose debris left behind by an earlier partial clear

Pressure is set to the pipe in front of it, so an old clay section gets a gentler pass than a sound PVC run. If the nozzle meets something it should not force, that becomes a repair conversation.

When Is Jetting the Right Tool?

A plunger or a short auger handles a one-off clog right at a fixture. The jetter earns its place when the choke sits well down the line or the same drain keeps closing up.

  • Two or three fixtures slow down on the same day
  • A drain you had cleared is sluggish again soon after
  • The shower waste burps when the washing machine pumps out
  • Soggy ground in the yard that no rain explains

Jetting cleans the full bore, so the choke and the build-up behind it both go. The CCTV drain inspection page explains how the line gets filmed first when the cause is a mystery.

What Shapes the Cost of a Jetting Job?

Sand is the cost driver that sets this ground apart, because a packed run needs more passes than a greasy one. Beyond that:

  • The length of the run, and which openings the hose can go in through
  • How many passes the material needs, from soft grease to settled sand
  • Whether a camera run is booked before the jetting as well as after
  • Night or weekend work, which runs at the after-hours rate on the quote

We provide up-front, honest quotes that will always match the final price, should you decide to go ahead.

Why Jetting Suits This Ground

Sand behaves like silt, not a plug

Jewells sits on sandy soil beside the wetland, and fine grains wash through open joints and settle along the bottom of the pipe. A coil pokes a hole through that layer and leaves the rest. Water pressure lifts it and carries it away, which is why jetting is the fix for sand-ingress chokes.

A high water table means slow recovery

The low blocks near the swamp keep the ground wet below the surface, so a partly jetted line refills with silt sooner. We run the camera after the clear to check the whole bore is open, not just the first few metres.

Ageing clay under the gardens

Homes went up here from the 1970s on, and the clay junctions from that era are where soft roots take hold. Where roots have split a joint, the jetter clears the choke and tree root removal handles the lasting fix.

What Customers Say

We talked through the options of our blocked kitchen sink drain (not just an s bend problem) and came to the perfect long term solution at a reasonable price.

When We're Not the Right Call

Water pressure will not hold a broken pipe together. If the footage shows a crushed or split section, the job becomes pipe relining instead. And a choke inside the Hunter Water main is theirs to fix, so jetting your side would not reach it; we give you their contact and leave their pipe to their crew.

Questions People Ask About Jetting

Will jetting shift the sand that blocks drains in Jewells?

Yes. Water under pressure lifts settled sand and carries it downstream instead of boring a narrow hole through it, which matters on sandy ground. The camera run afterwards shows whether the pipe is open end to end or a low section is still holding grit.

Do you use chemicals to clear the drain?

No. Only water goes through the jetter, so nothing corrosive goes down your pipes or out toward the wetland. If roots or a broken section are the true cause, we name the repair that deals with it instead.

How long does a jetting job take?

It depends on how many openings the property has and how far down the line the choke sits. The plumber can give you a fair idea once the first camera look is done, and you approve that figure before any water goes down the pipe.

Is jetting safe for older clay pipes?

Yes, provided the pressure is matched to the clay. On the 1970s lines here, a camera look first tells us how sound the clay is, and a section too fragile to jet gets relined instead.
