Stormwater Drains Jewells

Stormwater drains in Jewells take roof and yard runoff to your property's discharge point, and when the line blocks, the water comes back into the lawn. We clear, repair and regrade stormwater lines with the jetter, the electric eel and the camera, and you see a fixed price ahead of the work. Ring (02) 4063 3469 any hour.

What Makes a Stormwater Line Fail Here?

The suburb drains toward Jewells Wetland, and that sets the problems:

  • Fine sand from the coastal soil washing into joints and pit bases, settling in the low bends until the line barely flows
  • Roots from established gardens entering through older junctions on the post-1970s estates
  • Groundwater sitting close to the surface on the low side, keeping everything under the yard saturated and slow
  • Leaf litter and grit off the roof packing into gutters, downpipes and the yard gully after every big blow

Is It the Stormwater Line or the Sewer?

Rain water is the clue. If the trouble shows up only while it rains or straight after, with pooling lawns, bubbling yard gullies and downpipes spilling onto paths, the stormwater line is the suspect.

A sewer fault behaves the opposite way: fixtures back up regardless of the weather, and the smell leaves no doubt which pipe it is. That work has its own page, and blocked sewer jobs are covered there in full.

How a Stormwater Clear Runs

  1. 01

    Find the blockage

We check the pits, gullies and the yard's discharge point first, then send the drain camera through if the choke sits below the surface.

  2. 02

    Clear the line

The jetter scours the whole line clean of sand and sludge, or the electric eel cuts a root mat apart, whichever the choke calls for.

  3. 03

    Prove it flows

The camera passes back through after the clear so you see the line running clean, and the footage is yours to keep.

  4. 04

Fix the cause if there is one

A dropped joint or a cracked section gets repaired or relined so the same choke does not come back with the next storm.

Roots that grow back after a clear are their own job: tree root removal sets that work out in full. For what the jetter itself does, the drain jetting page has the detail.

How Much Does a Stormwater Clear Cost?

The price comes from the job in front of us:

  • How far the line travels from the downpipes to the kerb, and how many access points sit along it
  • What the choke is made of, since flushed sand moves faster than a packed root ball
  • Whether the camera needs one pass or two, filming before the clear and again after
  • Whether a dropped or cracked section needs a repair or a reline, which jetting alone will not fix

A Catchment That Rises With Every Storm

Low ground, fast water

The suburb sits inside the Jewells Swamp catchment, a low sandy basin covered by a NSW SES flood study, and the wetland at its heart rises quickly once a downpour settles in before draining through culverts under Kalaroo Road out to Nine Mile Beach. Area records put average yearly rainfall at 1,148 mm, so every stormwater line here gets a genuine test.

A half-blocked line fails first

A pipe already narrowed by sand or roots cannot take that surge. Water stands on the lawn, climbs the lowest gully and can lap at doorsteps on the low side of the basin. The answer is the same every time: find the restriction on camera, clear it properly, and repair the section when the camera finds one.

When We're Not the Right Call

Water laying on the nature strip or pooling on the road itself is council drainage, and the council's own crews handle that side of things. Flooding that is entering the house and will not stop is an emergency plumber job, and that page sets out the first steps to take.

What Customers Say

[The team] have done an outstanding job at my mother's rental property. The area they worked on was particularly challenging, as it retained water and had become extremely muddy and boggy… The transformation has been remarkable.

Stormwater Questions From the Low Streets

Why does my yard near the wetland flood so fast when it rains hard?

Your block drains into the Jewells Swamp catchment, which rises quickly in a big storm, and the sandy ground holds groundwater close to the surface. A line partly choked with sand or roots cannot move that volume, so it backs up onto the lawn before the rain has stopped.

Is a stormwater blockage different to a sewer one on these sandy streets?

Yes. Stormwater lines carry rain off the property to its legal discharge point, while the sewer carries waste to the Hunter Water network. Different pipes, different destinations, and different gear when one blocks.

Can you stop sand from the dunes getting back into my line?

A jetting clean flushes out the sand that has already settled, and a camera run shows where it is getting in. A shifted joint or a dropped section is what lets it keep returning, and repairing that section is the lasting fix.

Is stormwater clearing covered by your warranty?

Yes. Stormwater clears and repairs both come under the 365-day warranty on all work. If a job we finish does not hold, ring the same number and we return to put it right.
